*Saginaw High School Graduate:
Played Football, basketball and baseball; received his diploma in 1947

*Signed first professional baseball contract with the Chicago White Sox in 1946

*Declared a free agent by Commissioner A.B. Chandler because the White Sox signed him prior to his graduation from Saginaw High.

*Signed with Milwaukee Brewers, a farm club of the Boston Braves.

*Played for Fort Campbell, KY, two years while serving in the 457th Airborne Field Artillery battalion as a paratrooper. His army team won the state title and he was voted MVP.

*Fired a 2-hitter in his Major League debut against the New York Giants - May 12th, 1952

*Turned in a fine 13-8 record for the Milwaukee Braves rookie year with a 2.98 ERA, which was third best in the league.

*Recorded back-to-back 18 win seasons - 1956-57

*Pitched for the Braves in the World Series Championship - 1957

*Pitched in the 1961 All-Star Game

*Played 15 seasons of Major League ball compling a 166-132 record.
