*Attended Michigan State where he played football and baseball

*Signed off the Michigan State campus by the Cleveland Indians

*Spent time in the Minor Leagues with Batavia, Reading, Mobile and Salt Lake City, making the All-Star team in three of four years

*Slammed his first Major League home run off veteran hurler Bill Monbouquette of the Boston Red Sox

*Turned in an excellent rookie campaign with a .277 batting average

*Known for his acrobatic catches in the outfield, including one against the Red Sox that was featured in
Sports Illustrated

*Played 7 years in the Major Leagues with the Indians, New York Mets, and the Pittsburgh Pirates, belting 33 career home runs.
