
Robert Welzein was born in Saginaw, Michigan in July of 1950. He was the third of six children born to Albert and Betty Welzein. Bob grew up in Saginaw at Maple and Division Streets attending Jerome Elementary, South Middle and Arthur Hill High School. While attending Saginaw Schools, Bob participated in basketball and football at every chance offered. He carried the Saginaw News delivering door-to-door for several years.
After graduating from Arthur Hill in 1968, Bob attended Central Michigan University majoring in Recreation and Physical Education. Bob played Football for a season and played a year of Varsity Basketball while attending Central Michigan.
He met his future wife while attending CMU. After graduating from CMU in 1972 Bob was hired to teach PE and coach at St. Charles Community Schools. Bob married his wife, Ann, in 1972 and they settled in Saginaw where Ann worked for Saginaw Schools for 35 years until retirement. Bob has coached Varsity Basketball, Track and Football while teaching at STC.
Several years ago he completed an endorsement and taught mathematics for the last 20 years of his teaching career. He retired from the classroom and from coaching two years ago in 2007. He continues to work in St. Charles as the Athletic Director. Bob is active in the St. Charles community by serving on the Lions and in the Saints Snowmobile Club.
