As Coach/Manager for the Means Stamping baseball
team, Nehmer has dedicated over
four decades helping young men hone their skills on the baseball
diamond and earn college scholarships. Means
Stamping has dominated play in Saginaw Township Recreation’s 18-and-under Connie Mack baseball league.
The team has had great success on the field, capturing the Connie Mack
World Series in 1980 prior to finishing as
runner-up in 1978. Their last trip to the national tournament came in
1984. A photo of the 1980 team is pictured
in the Baseball Hall of Fame. Nehmer has helped well over 100 of his
players get into college baseball through
his extensive contacts all over the country. In 1990 he had more than
20 of his present or former players competing at the collegiate level. Major Leaguers he has coached include
Curt Young, Keith Miller, Matt Meiske, Vern
Ruhle and Dennis Konuszewski. Nehmer worked at Means for 34 years as a
Tool & Die maker and in supervision
His eye for talent has earned a job scouting baseball talent
throughout mid-Michigan. Nehmer has scouted for
the Philadelphia Phillies, Detroit Tigers and Chicago White Sox, while
currently bird-dogging for the Cleveland
Indians for the past 12 years.
